Gender and participatory research training

To support scientists working within the CRP Forests, Trees and Agroforestry (FTA) in their collaborative efforts to deliver positive ecological and development outcomes that equitably affect men and women, Bioversity International is organizing a five-day Gender and Participatory Research Training from 8 to 12 July 2013 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Participants will include CRP FTA researchers from Bioversity, CIFOR and ICRAF working within the region as well as national partners.
 
The aim of the training is to guide biophysical and social scientists in integrating gender and social analyses in their work on forest genetic resources, and to provide them with the tools required to achieve this goal. The training will help identify key questions about gendered ecological knowledge, access to resources, and tree management practices, among other themes, that can lead to realistic recommendations for enhancing the conservation of forests and their genetic resources. It will also focus on the use of participatory research methods that build on local traditions of biodiversity management, and that can trigger transformative change processes to make the management of forests more sustainable and socially equitable.
