In Ecuador's Amazon provinces of Orellana and Napo, new CIFOR research has turned an old gender stereotype on its head. The preliminary study found indigenous Kichwa women don't just work in the home and the orchard - they go with their husbands into the forest and help to harvest timber. -

Yet the Congo's forests are being cleared at an alarming rate amid global demand for minerals, energy and wood resources from Africa.
