Linking policy, practice and research for gender-responsive change in forestry
20 June 2012, 13.30 - 14.30
Rio Pavillion, Athlete's Park (opposite Riocentro)
This program aimed to promote discussion and the exchange of ideas on concrete ways to address gender inequalities at different governance levels in forestry research and practice, and on the risks and opportunities associated with different strategies and choice of partners.
The program began with three short presentations on experiences linking research in forests to policy makers, practitioners and communities in order to advance gender integration or equity. Each presenter briefly presented her (or his) research project or method, the gender dimensions addressed, strategies aimed at engaging decision-makers at multiple governance levels, and emerging findings.
The first presentation focused on a project in Uganda and Nicaragua aimed at improving women's participation; the second, on Adaptive Collaborative Management as a methodology for grassroots change; and the third, on gender and REDD+ based on experience from Vietnam. This was followed by discussion.
Presentations
- Anne Larson and Esther Mwangi: Understanding obstacles and promoting and measuring change through engagement at multiple scales
- Anne Marie Tiani and Peter Cronkleton: Linking research to action: the role of Adaptive Collaborative Management
